News from Eastbourne Youth Worker Trust
The vision of the Eastbourne Youth Worker Trust is to help develop the young people of Eastbourne physically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually.
We aim to do this by EDGE:
E mpowering young people to be
D eveloping within themselves,
G enerous towards others, and
E ngaging in life.
Our main activity is the Friday night drop-in. This is to create a safe, supportive, fun place for young people to spend time together. We run activities such as soccer, bulrush, touch etc. We also have a pool table, coffee machine and a TV.
Occasionally we will run 'special nights' such as planned waterfights - army style, fear factor, combined youth nights, hire out singstar or guitar hero, and run different games.
We seek to consult regularly with the young people at EDGE on what they would like to happen. We do this to show them that they are valued and their opinion is important. We also see the importance of empowering and equipping a young person with the skills and opportunity to bring their ideas about themselves.
Some events that we have run are a mural day and different fundraising activities. A dance coming up on Friday 30/7/10 has been planned and run by the young people themselves.
Recently, we took a bunch of young people to a camp where they were encouraged to give back to the community. The young people did chores like picking up pinecones, milking cows and weeding gardens. They loved it so much that they want to go back next year.
This coming term I would like to take the older young people away on different activities around the Hutt, and in Eastbourne . This is to encourage attendance and engagement from this older age group.
I would possibly be looking for help with transport for these activities and also sponsorship so all who would like to attend, can.
If you can help with any of these or would like to be in contact, my details are below. I would love to hear from you.
Blessings,
Gina Sinclair , Eastbourne Youth Worker
